Why shopping sites go down

E-commerce sites are built for steady traffic, then get hit with enormous spikes on sale days — Black Friday, Prime Day, a flash drop — which is exactly when they’re most likely to buckle. The failures we see most are checkout and payment-processor overloads, cart or inventory systems timing out under load, and CDN issues that leave product images and pages half-loaded.

The most common problems

Reports tend to cluster around: checkout or payment failing, the cart emptying or erroring, pages and images not loading, and login problems. A useful tell: if you can browse but not check out, the storefront is up and the payment or order system is the bottleneck — your card details are almost always safe, and it’s worth waiting rather than retrying a charge repeatedly.
