Few outages are as stressful as one that touches your money. When a transfer stalls or your banking app won’t open, the first thing to establish is whether the service itself is down or the problem is on your end. This page brings together live status for the major banks, payment apps and crypto exchanges we monitor so you can check quickly and calmly.

A quick safety note: Down Checkr only checks whether a service’s website is responding — we never ask for and never see your login. During an outage, only ever sign in on the company’s own official app or website, and be extra wary of "support" messages or links, which spike whenever a financial service goes down.

Why banking and payment apps go down

Financial platforms sit on layers of infrastructure that all have to agree before a transaction completes: the app, the bank’s core systems, card networks, and — for payments between services — a partner bank on the other side. A failure in any one of them can stall a transfer even when the app opens fine. The causes we see most are scheduled maintenance (often overnight or on weekends), core-banking system overloads on paydays and holidays, and outages at a payment processor that ripple across every app that depends on it.

The most common problems

Reports usually cluster around a few issues: the app won’t load or log in, a transfer or payment is stuck "pending," a card is declined, or the balance won’t update. A useful tell: if you can log in and see your balance but a payment won’t send, the app is up and the payment rail is the bottleneck — the money is almost always safe and the transfer completes once the backend recovers.

Is it the bank, or your connection?

If our monitor shows the service as up but it won’t work for you, the issue is usually local — your connection, DNS, or a cached app session (a sign-out and back in often clears it). If we show it down and reports are climbing, it’s a service-wide outage and the safest move is to wait rather than retry a payment repeatedly. Our guide on telling if a service is down for everyone or just you explains how to be sure.
